The Teachers
Elisa De Toffol and Carla Peña are two experienced music teachers and performers that will lead you through the whole process.

Elisa De Toffol
Elisa De Toffol is a professional singer, singing teacher, and Italian vocal coach. After completing her master’s in early music singing at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague—building on her classical singing studies at the Conservatory of Brescia, Italy, her jazz singing studies at the Conservatory of Ferrara, Italy and piano studies at Trinity College London—she has performed as a soloist in theatres and festivals both inside and outside Europe: Bayerische Staatsoper, Munich (Germany), Di Menna Center, NY (USA), Salzburger Festspiele (Austria), Grachten Festival/EarlyMusicfestival Utrecht/ Opera forward festival (Netherlands). Alongside her performing career, she worked as Italian vocal coach at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, and she currently works as singing teacher through her private practice and as choral conductor at Pandora Studio and Ecotone Studio. In 2024 she founded The Voice Circle, the first stable circle singing and voice-impro weekly course in the NL.
Since 2020, Elisa has been exploring new ways to develop voice work as a powerful tool for reconnection—both with oneself and with others—particularly in response to the challenges of recent years. This research led her to discover music therapy, which she has gradually integrated into her work as a singer and teacher. She is currently training as a music therapist at ArtEZ University of the Arts in Enschede.

Carla Peña
Carla Peña is a professional cellist, music teacher and cultural entrepreneur. She completed her studies at the Conservatori Superior de Liceu in Barcelona and at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where she followed a minor in Music Education.
Her main field of specialization is Chamber Music. For this reason, in 2014 she founded Trio Jakob, a piano trio. With them she has been awarded in multiple international chamber music competitions - Juventudes Musicales in Spain, La Follia Nuova International Competition in Italy, II Concurs Cambra Romànica in Andorra, Champagne Maillard prize at FNAPEC Competition (France),… She has also performed in numerous prominent venues and festivals across Europe, including Concertgebouw and Muziekgebouw (Amsterdam), L’Auditori (Barcelona), Casa da Música (Porto), Palau de la Música (Barcelona) and Fundación Juan March (Madrid), among others.
Driven by her deep commitment to making art and music accessible to everyone, in 2021 she founded Pandora Studio, a cultural space in The Hague, where she maintains a cello class and organizes a variety of cultural activities with the goal of creating a large artistic community, where lovers of music the arts can experience different artistic disciplines and connect with other people in the city.
FAQs
Why music theory is important for singers (and all musicians)
Visualising your melodic line, also allows you to anticipate what’s coming next and prepare your musical intention and refine your expressive delivery, making your vocal performance stronger in interpretation and therefore strengthens your musical and vocal awarness. Music theory helps you understand also the harmony and structure of a piece, making it easier to blend with other voices/lines and stay in tune.
Why reading music is important? I usually learn by ear…
Reading music allows you to quickly learn your part without relying on a recording or someone else's ear. This skill is crucial for efficient rehearsals and gives you the independence to navigate complex scores and dynamic markings, ensuring you can perform your part accurately and confidently as a seamless member of the choir or as solo singer. Finally, unlike one might think, being able to read music gives much more space to imagination ;) With this workshop you will gain important tools to build your own basics in reading music and you will discover your ear strengthened, and a faster study process!

I am no a professional. How can I learn all of this in such a short time?

Through music games, group fun exercises (even writing your own melody!) you will train, rhythmical skills, voice-eye coordination and writing skills in order to build a more solid toolbox for your future singing/choir practice. We give you the tools, you put your energy and some practice into it (see below), your voice will guide you ;)
